Sensational start to the 2025/26 season!
West Norfolk Swim Club has already made their mark to start to the 2025/26 season, showcasing their skill and determination with their remarkable performances in two major swimming events held in September.
On the 13th of September, the Junior Fenland League final took place at the St Ives Swimming Pool, Cambridgeshire, and West Norfolk Swim Club emerged victorious, claiming the title of final winners for 2025. The team of swimmers aged from nine to thirteen years, and led by coach, Oli Kenny, faced fierce competition from rival teams including Wisbech A, Ely, and St Ives, but they outshone their rivals, securing them the top spot and bringing the trophy home.
The following day, on the 14th of September, West Norfolk swimmers continued their winning streak at the season's first gala, the Nifty Fifties, hosted by Thetford Dolphins. West Norfolk swimmers took to the pool, and triumphed, as they amassed a total of 37 medals and took the trophy for top visiting club.
Among the standout performances, Junru Cai took gold in the 50 Freestyle, while Kirill Ivanenco showcased his versatility by clinching gold in both the 50 Butterfly and the 100 Individual Medley. Martha More secured gold in all her six events, and Lily Nell took home gold in the 50 Freestyle, 50 Breaststroke, and 50 Butterfly. Nikita Diadko added to the gold rush with victories in the 50 Breaststroke and 50 Butterfly, and Betsy Chadderton rounded out the gold medallists with wins in the 50 Backstroke and 100 Individual Medley.
The silver medals were equally impressive, with Morgan Arthur, Alexandra Cerps, Maya Marcinek, and Daisy Morris all contributing to the tally. Charlotte Wells, Ellie Kitt, and Ethan Williams claimed the bronze medals.
In addition to this fantastic start to the season, six swimmers from West Norfolk will represent the County at the Go Cardless, Swim England National County Team Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on the 5th of October. Millie Harris, Joshua Jones, Alexander Pattinson, Olivia Bradford, Harry Clarke, and Valeria Solditihhina were all selected to join other top swimmers from the county to take part in the prestigious event. This is the most swimmers ever selected from West Norfolk, which is based on a selection criterion of times and performance over the 2024/25 season.
The club's fantastic start to the season has set a high bar for the competitions to come, and their swimmers are undoubtedly ones to watch as the swimming season progresses. With such a strong beginning, the West Norfolk Swim Club is primed for continued success and more thrilling performances in the months ahead.
