If they can confidently perform most of the four main strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) and are eager to improve, they may be ready. A quick assessment during our trial sessions will help our coaches decide the best squad placement.

We enter a range of meets throughout the year: friendly home and local galas, county and regional championships, and even English Nationals and British Championships for our higher-level squads. Our coaching team will guide you on which meets best suit your swimmer’s level.

Essential items include a swimsuit, goggles, and a swim cap. As they advance, they may need training aids like kickboards, pull buoys, fins, and paddles.

All WNSC members must be registered with Swim England (formerly known as the ASA). This membership ensures insurance coverage, access to licensed galas, coaches training, and our club's SwimMark accreditation.

Membership includes:
Insurance coverage while participating in swimming activities
Eligibility to compete in licensed competitions
Support and training for coaches
Club accreditation under the SwimMark scheme
Support for volunteers and club officials

New members agree to Swim England’s Terms and Conditions when joining WNSC. Membership renewals are handled by the club each January. If you transfer to or from another club, your Swim England membership moves with you.

Membership fees collected by WNSC include Swim England national and regional fees.
Q: What are the current Swim England membership categories?
Club Train (formerly Category 1) – for swimmers who train with the club but do not enter licensed meets above Level 4 (typically 8 & under, or masters who only train).
Club Compete (formerly Category 2) – for swimmers aged 9 & over who race in licensed competitions or represent more than one club.
Club Support (formerly Category 3) – for non-swimming members such as coaches, volunteers, officials and committee members.

We are required to share your email address (parent’s email for swimmers under 18) and postal address with Swim England.
