The latest round of the Junior Fenland League was hosted by West Norfolk at St James Pool.
Clubs from Peterborough, Deepings, Huntingdon and Bottisham were welcomed and competed over the usual series of events for swimmers up to the age of 13 years.
As always this league is an ideal opportunity for younger, less experienced swimmers to gain confidence in competitive racing, in a friendly environment. Winning races is always important but race technique, including starts and turns need to be mastered by the youngest club swimmer, so much emphasis is placed on this by West Norfolk’s coaching staff.
There were some excellent swims from West Norfolk’s swimmers. Sam Randall was in excellent form, taking two individual wins in the 50m 13/under breaststroke, and 100m I/M.
Harry Sharpe scored an emphatic win in the 50m 12/under fly. Ethan Evans won a very close and exciting 50m 13/under freestyle to pick up maximum points. Campbell Pick was victorious in the 50m 12/under breaststroke, and Daniel Grimmer took first place in the 50m 10/under fly.
For the girls, Lara Hindmarsh won her 50m 9 years backstroke, in one of her very first galas. Abigail Nicholson took first place in the 12/under 100m I/M. Congratulations to all the other team members who fought valiantly for every point, and as always showed enthusiastic support for their team mates and respect for their opponents.
Grateful thanks to all the visiting clubs and their officials. Thanks to the team at Alive Leisure for poolside and organisational duties. Thanks as always to all West Norfolk’s coaching staff and officials, plus enthusiastic supporters on the night. Lois Addis was as always hugely efficient in her traditional role as results recorder.
