Arena Final 2015

As 2015 draws to a close, West Norfolk Swimming Club can sit back and reflect on what has been a truly spectacular year.  Records have tumbled at all levels with team spirit at the heart of every competition the Club competes in.

Last Saturday night was no exception when the ‘Purple Army’ ventured into unknown territory in the B Final of the National Arena League at Bury St. Edmunds.  A top team of experienced swimmers took on West Suffolk, Sherwood CSC, Deepings, Nottingham Leander, and Louth in an almighty showdown.

This event is the culmination of several rounds of competition over recent months, with West Norfolk never having been beyond the C Final.

Natalie Coogans led the way for the girls, scoring inspirational wins in the ladies’ open 100m I/M, and the open breaststroke.  Nathan Wells put his vast reservoir of experience and talent to excellent use, taking victory in both the mens’ open 100m I/M and open backstroke.

Robert Addis has had a sensational year, here taking first place in both the 10/11 yr old breast and freestyle, to give West Norfolk maximum points.  Alex Florance showed his customary speed in breaststroke to win the 15/under event with an impressive swim.  Another breaststroke specialist, Molly Lee, took the girls’ 15/under event to score more valuable points for the team.

To round off the evening the West Norfolk supporters were treated to a dazzling display of freestyle relay swimming from the open ladies team.  Natalie Warnes, Natalie Coogans, Sophie Empson, Sarah Vanderloo, Elise Sorrell and Abigail Whiting combined their considerable forces to win the penultimate event of the evening, leaving their rivals trailing in their wake.

Final Result

1st West Suffolk 241 points; 2nd Nottingham Leander 180; 3rd Sherwood CSC 170; 4th WNSC 167; 5th Deepings 158; 6th Louth 133.

A huge thanks to the very vocal parents and other family members who provided such enthusiastic support.  Thanks to Head Coach Sarah for cajoling great performances all year, and still being prepared to get in the water and race!
