The busy year continues for West Norfolk swimmers, with a select band of eight travelling to Luton to compete in the presigious Autumn Long Course Meet at Inspire Sports Village, hosted by Team Luton. This event had attracted a huge number of entries, with many being turned away, so the team of Robert Addis,Zack Campbell-Maughan, Josh Gray, Ryan Sykes, Harry Thompson, Joseph Wells, Nathan Wells and Abbie Whiting, were amongst over 600 swimmers from more than 60 clubs nationwide. Robert Addis was the only nine year old boy to qualify and was swimming at his first long course and level 1 meet. Such was the standard of entries that the West Norfolk eight found themselves competing alongside 2012 Olympian Daniel Fogg and Paralympians James Hollis and Ellie Simmonds.
As expected competition was extremely tough, but this brought out some superb performances from our swimmers. Robert Addis came away with three top 6 places, and Nathan Wells and Abbie Whiting one each amongst their other excellent finishes. Nathan also came very close to achieving national times in the 100 and 200 backstroke and had an extra special achievement of 3rd in the 200 back as it was a double age group for medals in the 15/16 group. Abbie whitings 200 freestyle was her best swim of the weekend. All the swimmers achieved lots of personal best times, clearly being inspired by the surroundings and level of competition, with much entertainment being provided for their loyal supporters.
