A squad of 20 West Norfolk swimmers travelled to Luton for the East Region Winter Championships during the first weekend of November. The swimmers accumulated the 7th highest haul from the 48 competing clubs with 3 silver and 4 bronze medals over the weekend as well as numerous personal best (pb) times.
Nathan Wells kicked the weekend off on Friday evening with the gruelling 1500m Freestyle event where he swam a pb time and finished an agonising 4th place just outside the medals. Nathan continued his good form throughout a busy weekend where he competed in a further 11 events making 7 finals, winning the silver medal in the 400m Freestyle (pb) and bronze medals in 200m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley (pb) he also recorded further pbs in the 50m Freestyle and 100m IM.
Natalie Coogans was once again on form in her favoured Breastroke events swimming pbs and winning silver medals in the 100m and 200m Breastroke events and breaking the Norfolk County Senior Records for both events in the process. She also showed her ability to branch out into other events with pbs in the 50m Freestyle and 400m IM.
Abigail Whiting completed the West Norfolk medal hunt taking the bronze medal in a very competitive 100m Freestyle (pb) she also made the finals and swam pbs in the 200m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle events where she broke both the Junior and Senior 50m Freestyle Norfolk County Records.
Chloe Sorrell (50m Backstroke), Natalie Warnes (50m Backstroke & Freestyle), Jake Hall (200m Butterfly) and Molly Lee (50m, 100m & 200m Breastroke pb) competing in their first Senior Regional events all made the most of the experience with strong swims.
Other eye catching personal best swims during a heavy weekend of racing came from Oliver Newton (200m IM, 100m Freestyle), Joseph Wells (200m & 400m IM, 50m & 200m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke), Ryan Sykes (200m IM, 100m Breastroke, 200m Freestyle), Elise Sorrell (50m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle), Roxanne Uys (50m Backstroke, 100m & 200m IM, 200m Breastroke), Matthew Addis (50m & 100m Freestyle, 400m IM), Alex Florance (100m & 200m Breastroke). There were also seasons best swims from Archie Holman, Sophie Empson, Elliot Legg and Joshua Gray.
